2 00 2 How much is RHIC different from SPS ? Comparison of the p ⊥ - spectra ∗

چکیده

We show, by means of a simple compilation of the available experimental results, that the p⊥-spectra obtained at RHIC and SPS are strikingly similar up to p⊥ ≃ 1.5− 2 GeV. In fact, the discrepancies between various experimental groups working at the same experiment are of the same size as the differences between RHIC and SPS. Our observation is complementary to the well known fact of the equality of the measured Rside and Rout HBT radii at RHIC and SPS. In essence, it points out that the transverse size of the firecylinder and the strength of the transverse flow are not significantly changed between SPS and RHIC. This suggests that a saturation mechanism is effective already at SPS. We also point out that the dominance of protons over π at large p⊥ can be seen not only in the RHIC data, but already in the SPS data.

The influence of nuclear multiscattering and shadowing on pion spectra is investigated in pA collisions from CERN SPS to RHIC energies. The calculations are performed in a next-to-leading order (NLO) pQCD-improved parton model, including intrinsic partonic transverse momentum distributions. The nuclear modification of the pion spectra (Cronin effect) is considered at different targets in a wide...

The final state in heavy-ion collisions has a higher degree of strangeness saturation than the one produced in collisions between elementary particles like p − p or p − ¯ p. A systematic analysis of this phenomenon is made for C − C, Si − Si and P b − P b collisions at the CERN SPS collider and for Au − Au collisions at RHIC and at AGS energies. Strangeness saturation is shown to increase smoot...

New experimental data on inclusive spectra of identified particles produced in pp collisions at the RHIC are used to test z-scaling. Energy and multiplicity independence of the scaling function is established. The RHIC data confirm z-scaling observed at U70, ISR, SpS and Teva-tron energies. The obtained results are of interest to search for new physics phenomena of particle production in high t...

The transverse mass spectra of J/ψ and ψ ′ mesons and Ω hyperons produced in central Au+Au collisions at RHIC energies are discussed within a statistical model used successfully for the interpretation of the SPS results. The comparison of the presented model with the future RHIC data should serve as a further crucial test of the hypothesis of statistical production of charmonia at hadronization...
